A goodwill leader who has devoted three decades to international friendship and cultural exchange in diplomatic settings, working as a bridge of multicultural coexistence connecting Asia and the world.
Born as the eldest daughter of a temple of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha tradition, she grew up familiar with Japan’s spiritual culture. After graduating from Musashino Women’s University (now Musashino University), she worked at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan. In 1997, she married diplomat E. Rodney M. Perera and, as a diplomatic spouse, stood at the forefront of international exchange in postings across the world including New York, Kenya, Italy, Belgium, and the United States. In 2022, she returned to Japan following her husband’s appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan.
Currently, drawing on her experience as a former ambassador’s spouse, she conducts lectures and international protocol and etiquette education, conveying the importance of etiquette and dialogue. With a unique perspective grounded in both Japanese traditional spirit and international social culture, she contributes to women’s social participation and the development of globally minded next-generation leaders.
