Masako Perera
The Wife of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka in Japan

She grew up as the heiress of a temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture. She graduated from Musashino Women’s University (now Musashino University) in 1990. After graduating from university, she planned to take over the temple, but she wanted to gain experience in Tokyo, so in March 1990 she got a job at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan. There she met a Sri Lankan diplomat, Mr. E. Rodney M. Perera (Second Secretary at the time, current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka in Japan), and she married in 1997. She has been posted to New York, Kenya, Italy, Norway, Belgium, and the United States. As a diplomat’s wife, she tries to promote friendly exchanges.

Since the fall of 2022, she has been working as a bridge between Japan and Sri Lanka in Japan with H.E. Perera, the husband of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Japan.

She is also an instructor of international etiquette and manners, and is planning lessons to convey the importance of etiquette and communication in Japan.
