Currently, a crowdfunding campaign is underway for the completion of the documentary film “Unspoken Souls,” which features animal protection activist Ms. Saengduean ‘Lek’ Chailert.
Ms. Lek is the recipient of the Asia Women Leaders Awards 2024 in the Environment category at the AWLF Asia Women Leaders International Pre-Summit 2024, held at the United Nations Conference Center in Thailand.

The crowdfunding deadline is August 5, 2024.

“Unspoken Souls” is the story of Ms. Lek and her disciple, Mr. New, as they strive to convey the importance of “the connection of life” to the next generation through the protection of working elephants exploited by Thailand’s tourism industry.

In Thailand, elephant rides and shows are popular tourist attractions. However, behind the scenes, young elephants were subjected to abusive training to ensure absolute obedience. Twenty years ago, Ms. Lek was the first Thai to speak out against the abuse of elephants.

For a time, Ms. Lek was viewed as an enemy by the domestic tourism industry and even had her life threatened. However, in recent years, as awareness of animal protection, nature conservation, and sustainable tourism has increased, her practice of “elephant-friendly eco-tourism” has become mainstream in Thailand.

We are seeking support for the production costs of the documentary film “Unspoken Souls,” which delves into the meaning of life and death and the connection of life through the bond with elephants.
